MIDDIE NOMS

With the memorial day week bye in the past, we are here at the midway point, and the competition is fiercer than ever, with no real clear frontrunner in sight. Teams are neck and neck, each vying for the coveted top spot, making every game a high-stakes affair.

With the unpredictability of this year’s championship race it leaves us with what else to talk about? The individual awards. Yes, we all play to win but don’t we all kind of do it to make ourselves feel special and better than everyone else? So let’s have a quick rundown of the mid-season award finalists, perhaps they’ll be here at the end or perhaps some will jump into the conversation with their second half performance.

As the second half of the season unfolds, the drama and excitement promise to escalate, making it anyone’s title to claim and a spectacle that will be riveting to watch until the very end. The projected early early winners are in bold.

First up:

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

  • Ghana Beanz – C – Goya Beanz: Sure we don’t know his last name but his QB sure does. Covering his butt and going all out on every play to keep him safe.
  • Craig Cone – WR/CB – Nightmare: Don’t let his size fool you, this rookie has been snatching every ball in his vicinity and flying by players with ease.
  • Shane Crayton – WR/CB – Vikings: The Turkey Tourney MVP hopped on a loaded squad and instantly lit up the stat sheet. He is a difference maker who can do it from any spot on the field.
  • Danny Dimes – QB – FTB: His name speaks for itself. He’s throwing dimes to each and everyone.
  • Jon Garcia – C – LOD: One of three rookies on the squad but this one has been there for all the dubs, blocking and catching and taking names game in game out.
  • Anthony Hunt – CB – Scoregasms: He’s not lighting the world on fire statistically, but he’s a lock down corner who shuts up and does his job.
  • Chris Riley Sr. – C – New Era: He’s not your traditional rookie but he catches everything that’s dumped off to him and he keeps his feisty QB protected.

QUARTERBACK OF THE YEAR

  • Eric Bellerose – Goya Beanz: How can the reigning QB of the year not be on the list? He’s throwing the ball at an amazing catch to incompletion ratio and throws the best spiral since 07 Brady.
  • Chris Burns – Shotgunnaz: The Gunnaz are playing better than they ever have and it hasta do with Burns flinging ropes to his plethora of receivers.
  • Dillon LaPlante – Nightmare: The nicest QB in the league is now putting his team on the map. With 21 touchdown passes including a game with 10, he’s poised to lead his team to deep postseason success.
  • Timmy Michelini – Flagnado: The two time runner-up and one time winner, is at it again. Slinging the ball everywhere to the tune of 20 TD’s and just two INTs
  • Jordan Miranda – LOD: His touchdown numbers aren’t amazing yet but he’s running a high potent offense while picking up a ton of yards on the ground as well.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

  • Riley Burke – WR – Flagnado: Big Country has 18 receptions and 7 touchdowns but if we counted extra points as tuddys, he’d already be in the top ten all time. He’s a massive target and still goes uncovered.
  • JJ Lopez – WR – Raw Talent: What can’t JJ do? He takes 2 yard screens and glides across the ground like an ant with a sandwich at a picnic. He’s Blitz 7/11…always open.
  • Tyler McDaniels – WR – Nightmare: Tyler has been on an absolute tear this season. A huge catch radius and shifty hips to avoid tackles. He’s scoring a TD on every three receptions.
  • Austin Wentzel – WR- Vikings: Austin has been there consistently this season for the first time in his career and he’s making it count. Timely catches, huge touchdowns and crucial extra points, he’s been making it all happen on the offensive side of the ball.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

  • CJ Burke – DB – Flagnado: Another category, another Burke. This one is CJ and he has been on an island when in single coverage.
  • Huncho – DB – Scoregasms: On pace to break the single season tackle record, he is literally all over the field. If he’s on one side and you catch it on the other, he’ll come hunt you down and pull that flag.
  • Ivan Quijano – DB – Goya Beanz: This is familiar territory for Ivan. Tackles from everywhere on the field and the one of the best fumble punchers in Blitz history.
  • Bryce Sturtevant – DB – FTB: His tackles numbers are huge for a ball hawk like him but when he’s not shoving you out of bounds, he’s picking QB’s off with ease and in clutch moments.

IRONMAN (best center)

  • Gabe Jeffers – Raw Talent: New entry for Gabe though it shouldn’t be. He doesn’t mind a little contact in fact, he welcomes it. Protect his QB at all costs and make some moves with some soft hands to boot.
  • Dave Martel – Vikings: Something about Jake that the opposing rushers don’t like, because they go full speed at Martel and he still shuts them down. Veteran hustle and craftiness will keep his QB clean play after play.
  • Walter Nash – Shotgunnaz: Blocks til the defender can’t get up anymore, his hands are as big and as soft as anyone’s in New England, so good in fact that they spell him at slot time to time.
  • David Seamans – Nightmare: Play in and play out, Seamans take a beating to protect his QB and then at the count of 6 is able to get loose and rack up catches with huge YAC.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

  • David Hamilton – Shotgunnaz: Everyone knows this man is a dawg. He plays both ways and dominates on both sides. If he wins, know one will be upset about it.
  • Jason Michelini – Flagnado: The reigning MVP cannot not be in the discussion. He is the little motor scooter that makes the Flagnado high power offense click. Receptions, hips, dips and TD’s in his calling card.
  • Dane Schindler – Vikings: Throwing, catching, scoring, pulling flags, picking off and deflecting passes. Dane is on his A game this season and there doesn’t seem to be a slow down in sight.
  • Jamaal Woods – LOD: Jamaal is him. Always has been and always will be. He’s him. Plain and simple. A man of little words, will get little words. He’s him.
